My inspiration for this piece comes from a strong love for equality and feminism. Even in modern day, the world still manages to discriminate and mistreat those that are not exactly like themselves. The human race has a habit of mistreating those that arent cisgendered, or straight, or white. I have experienced this, be it towards myself, or someone else. It is all too present in today's society, and it would be a dream come true for the minorities to get equal treatment, no matter what. The woman in my illustration is Laverne Cox, who is an actress, producer, and LGBT advocate. As a trans* woman someone who has experienced discrimination, she is an inspiring spokesperson of what I am trying to portray.
I created this piece on Adobe Illustrator, using primarily the paintbrush tool. While many prefer the pen tool, I find the paintbrush tool much easier to work with in terms of brush flow and thickness. It is easier for me to manage and I am able to reach my desired result much quicker. To create the quote bubbles, I used the oval/circle shape tool, and morphed it using the pen tool. The pink outline, along with the male and female gender symbols, were done using the paintbrush tool.
The tutorial inspiration where I acquired the ability to create a second outline for an image or drawing can be found here.

Great Work! Even though you stole the background *cough*cough* Good Job!:)
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty awesome it made me smile with the phrases you put.
ReplyDeleteHey Breanna,
ReplyDeleteThis is an AMAZING piece. I absolutely love the colors on the background and the way you drew Laverne Cox. I noticed that you titled this discrimination. This i a very big issue today and i am happy someone addressed it. You are a very talented artist and i hope you will use that ability to you advantage. i have one question: did you use the tutorial to draw Laverne Cox?
Awesome color coordination ! I enjoyed your vivid expression of discrimination and bold perspective. I would recommend not stealing backgrounds though Jk C:
ReplyDeleteI LOVE LOVE LOOOOOVE this piece. I love everything about it, from the illustration to the message you're sending out. I noticed that the drawing was Laverne Cox and she is such an inspiration to myself and many other people. I agree that this discrimination should be stopped! LGBT and feminism rocks! I love the way used illustrator in your own way instead of following what everyone does. I can't even express how much I love this. Definitely one of my faves!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! I really love how you chose this idea. I noticed how you put the transgender flag in the background, very good idea
ReplyDeleteBreeeeee I seriously love your artwork. I hope you still continue drawing in your future. If you do, I can't wait to see what you well create :)
I like your idea you are portraying my favorite part are the stripes in the background. My observation is that I agree with your speech bubbles. I would not make any changes keep drawling you are amazing.
ReplyDeleteThis post has a very valid point, everyone deserves to be treated equally and not based upon discriminatory ideas. We shouldn't judge a person based upon the colour of their skin, sexual preference or religious ideas.
ReplyDeleteI honestly believe a person should be judged upon they way they act, how they show their true self to others. Those who show mistreatment or harm towards others based on any of those reasons are simply just not fit for the modern world. We must grow accepting to new cultures, ideas, and simply the ability to grasp the concept that every person has the right to be happy in their own way, as so long as noone is being harmed I see no wrong doing with why a person should be judged in the first place.
Anyhow off topic, I do like how this painting made with Adobe Illustrator displays equality of genders and the struggle for acceptance in todays society. In my opinion however I would have put a thin black outline around key objects or something to signify importance in a more "Eye Popping" manor to those who are viewing.
The idea of this post was clearly stated as with the intentions of the illustration, and I hope to see you continue with your wonderful artwork in the near future.
